This October half term, we set off on a fun-filled autumn adventure to Pumpkinville at Gunwharf Quays! We weren't sure what to expect in all honestly but actually it turned out to be one of our favourite seasonal outings yet!
We booked our tickets through the Fever app, which made everything quick and easy, and the event itself was a truly magical experience for all ages. If you’re looking for family friendly things to do in Portsmouth this autumn, Pumpkinville absolutely deserves a spot on your list.
The moment we arrived, we knew we were in for a treat. Gunwharf Quays had been transformed into a glowing autumn wonderland with rows of carved pumpkins, twinkling fairy lights, hay bales, and rustic autumn décor everywhere you looked.
The atmosphere was pure magic! Cozy, cheerful, and perfectly festive without being overwhelming. The kids were wide eyed with excitement from the moment we stepped in.
The Spook-Ademy – Pumpkinville’s Main Attraction
The highlight of Pumpkinville was without a doubt the Spook-Ademy. A playful, immersive theatre show where every guest becomes a student in the art of the scare!
Led by the mischievous Professor Nox, this one-of-a-kind Halloween experience blended digital content and live theatrical performances to create a show that was spooky, silly, and completely engaging.
We stepped into the otherworldly halls of the Spook-Ademy and were instantly drawn into the story. Everyone, kids and grown-ups alike got to watch, interact, and learn the Three Sacred S’s: Scare, Sneak, and Sorcery, before “graduating” as proud Scary Scholars!
It is such a fun way to introduce little ones to the world of immersive theatre, and it gave the whole event a magical, storybook feel.
Beyond the show, Pumpkinville itself was a visual delight. The team transformed that area of Gunwharf Quays into an autumn wonderland filled with pumpkin displays, twinkling fairy lights, hay bales, and spooky photo ops around every corner.
The atmosphere was family-friendly, vibrant and full of laughter, music, with fabulous the smell of seasonal treats! From waffles and hot chocolate to baked autumn goodies which warmed us right up. Not to mention a bar!!
We loved how inclusive and welcoming Pumpkinville felt. It struck the perfect balance between spooky and fun ideal for families with younger children who want a taste of Halloween magic without anything too scary.
The staff were wonderful, staying in character while keeping things light-hearted. Every part of the event felt thoughtfully planned and accessible for all ages.
Already Counting Down to Christmasville!
