We were absolutely thrilled to be invited to watch Ministry of Science Live at the New Theatre Royal in Portsmouth yesterday. Having heard glowing reviews from its London run over the summer, we couldn’t wait to see what all the buzz was about and it did not disappoint!
The show is brought to life by Mark Thompson Productions, the team behind favourites such as Milkshake! Live, Fireman Sam Live, and Science Museum Live. With that kind of pedigree, we knew we were in safe hands for a fun, family friendly performance.
What makes Ministry of Science Live so special is how brilliantly it blends learning with pure entertainment. The cast use a mix of humour, audience interaction, and jaw-dropping experiments to explain the principles of science in a way that grabs both children and adults. It’s the perfect balance of education and excitement.
The experiments were spectacular! Big, loud, and wonderfully visual! From the swirling clouds of dry ice (a firm favourite for Mase!) to the mini glowstick disco right in our seats, the energy never dipped. There were explosions, bangs, and even a few surprises that had the whole audience gasping and cheering. It really felt like science had been brought to life on stage.
Unfortunately, Portsmouth only got a one day visit, but the tour now heads to Folkestone and then Torquay, with more dates to follow around the UK. If you spot Ministry of Science Live coming to a theatre near you, we wholeheartedly recommend it.
This is a show that proves science is fun, fascinating, and for everyone. We’d say it’s perfect for kids aged 5 and up though grown ups will love it just as much as the little ones.
Verdict: A must-see for curious minds, big and small!
