We were kindly invited by Picking Patch to come along and experience their Halloween offering, Witchville, and I have to say, we had such a wonderful time!
Mason and I took along our friends Carina, Scarlett and Theodore for this one, and as soon as we arrived we were faced with a very important question…
What shall we do first?!
There is SO much to do at Witchville!
Of course, there are pumpkins and plenty of them! And ...lots of photo opportunities, but Witchville is packed full of fun, creative and unique activities that kept the children entertained throughout our visit.
And actually, the adults had a pretty good time too!
So, let me take you through our morning…
The Witchly Maze
We decided to start with the maze.
There are two versions to choose from at Witchville. A child-friendly Witchly Maze and a Scare Maze for those who like things a little more terrifying.
We went for the children’s maze, which was absolutely perfect for our group.
It was spooky enough to feel like a proper Halloween experience, but not too scary, so the children could enjoy it without anyone being too nervous.
And the set and props were brilliant!
There was so much attention to detail throughout the maze and it just looked really cool.
The children were given a little booklet and had to follow the clues to solve the mystery as they made their way through.
Honestly, if I had to pick one standout activity from our whole visit, this would be it.
It was clever, fun and genuinely something a little different.
The children loved it.
Witchcrafts
Next up, the children decided they wanted to do Witchcrafts.
This was such a lovely activity and a nice change of pace after the excitement of the maze.
They could choose between decorating:
Pink fairy wings
Bat wings
A witches’ or wizard’s hat
Everything they needed was provided – gems, stickers, ribbon, wool, glue and lots of other crafty bits.
They could really make them their own, and I loved that they had something they could take home with them afterwards.
It was a lovely, calming activity and the children really enjoyed sitting down and getting creative.
Graffiti Lab
Now this was the one Mason was particularly excited about!
At Graffiti Lab, the children could choose between a plain white T-shirt or a plain white cap before being let loose with the spray paint!
There were lots of stencils available to choose from, or they could freestyle their own designs.
Our lot did a bit of both!
They all chose T-shirts and got stuck into creating their designs.
It was messy, creative and they absolutely loved it.
One thing I’d recommend bringing…
This is where my only real negative comes in.
There aren’t any running water or hand washing facilities on site. There are portaloos, which were actually very clean and perfectly nice, but hand gel is provided rather than somewhere to wash your hands with water.
After Graffiti Lab, all three children came out with hands covered in spray paint…
And nowhere to wash them!
Now, I appreciate that running water in a field isn’t exactly the easiest thing to provide! I completely understand that there may not be a simple solution.
But if you’re visiting with children and planning to do Graffiti Lab, bring wet wipes!
We didn’t, and we definitely wished we had.
So consider this your friendly parent to parent warning!
Marshmallow Toasting
The children had been eyeing up the marshmallows pretty much since we arrived.
So before heading to our next activity, we stopped for some marshmallow toasting.
And they absolutely loved it!
There’s something about toasting marshmallows outdoors on a crisp autumn day that just feels like the perfect Halloween activity.
It was a lovely little break between activities and, of course, the children were very happy.
All Aboard the Halloween Express!
Marshmallows eaten, it was time for the Halloween Express.
This is Witchville’s Halloween take on a tractor/barrow ride.
The children climbed aboard and off they went!
And all I can say is…
We had five minutes of peace.
The children enjoyed their ride and we enjoyed watching them disappear off for a few minutes!
It’s a simple activity, but it’s another lovely addition to the day and something the children really enjoyed.
Pumpkin Picking
We took a stroll through the pumpkin picking area and they each chose their own pumpkins.
There’s something about letting the kids wander through a pumpkin patch and choose their own pumpkin that makes it feel properly autumnal.
And, of course, there are plenty of opportunities for those all-important Halloween photos!
If you’re looking for pumpkin picking in Hampshire or a pumpkin patch near the New Forest, Picking Patch is definitely one to have on your list.
Our Witchville Verdict
A wonderful morning was had by all!
We came away with pumpkins, handmade crafts, spray-painted T-shirts, full tummies from marshmallows and ice cream, and three very happy children.
Apart from wishing we’d packed wet wipes for the Graffiti Lab, we really couldn’t fault our morning.
If you’re looking for Halloween activities for kids, a family Halloween day out in Hampshire, or somewhere to go pumpkin picking in Hampshire this October, Witchville at Picking Patch is definitely worth considering.
We had a brilliant time and would happily go back.
